Our team focused on identifying opportunities to preserve value while ensuring a smooth and transparent process for all stakeholders. The administration of Amanda Wakeley was conducted with great care to protect the legacy of this iconic brand. – Terry Madden, Managing Director of Wyles Hardy & Co.

Overview

Wyles Hardy & Co was appointed by the Joint Administrators to market Amanda Wakeley Retail Ltd., aiming initially to secure a buyer for the business as a whole. Unfortunately, a suitable investor was not found, and Wyles Hardy was subsequently instructed to sell the company’s retail stock. Key assets included significant stock held at a fulfilment center and the luxury brand’s flagship store in Mayfair.

Method

Wyles Hardy conducted a thorough assessment and valuation of all retail stock, ensuring a detailed inventory for targeted sales. Our team then explored alternative channels to maximise recovery, focusing on designer retail outlets and reputable TV shopping channels, which could maintain the brand’s high-end image. Sales were carefully structured to protect Amanda Wakeley’s brand reputation while also appealing to luxury buyers. Our team initiated a phased sale process, targeting buyers both locally and internationally to expand market reach. Each placement was carefully negotiated to secure fair market prices without compromising the brand’s value perception. We closely monitored the sales channels to ensure competitive returns while managing brand placement in the luxury sector.

Results

  1. Designer Retail Placements: Stock was successfully placed with designer retailers, achieving strong sales prices that reflected the brand’s premium positioning.
  2. TV Shopping Channel Sales: Select stock was sold through exclusive agreements with TV shopping channels, generating strong sales and preserving brand visibility.
  3. Optimised Returns: Careful selection of channels and sale timing provided a favourable return to creditors, surpassing initial expectations..

Conclusion

This case exemplifies Wyles Hardy & Co’s strategic approach to asset recovery and brand-sensitive sales. By targeting luxury retailers and curated channels, we maintained the integrity of the Amanda Wakeley brand, ensuring placements aligned with its premium reputation. The multi-channel strategy broadened exposure while optimising returns for creditors. Effective brand management, even in administration, proved essential in maximising recovery and maintaining market respect for Amanda Wakeley’s name. This approach underscores the value of adaptive sales strategies that respect brand integrity, a crucial factor in high-end retail administrations.
