Terry Madden, Managing Director of Wyles Hardy & Co, stated, The administration of MG Sports & Racing Ltd. represents a challenging yet crucial opportunity to preserve the legacy of a storied brand while seeking viable outcomes for stakeholders. Our focus remains on navigating this process with integrity and transparency to achieve the best possible result.

Overview

Wyles Hardy & Co. was appointed by Administrators to value, market, and realise assets from MG Sports & Racing Ltd., the motorsport division of MG Rover Group. This division, known for developing specialist vehicles, parts, and motorsport programs, was instrumental in promoting the MG brand. Key assets included the MG SV supercar, rally vehicles, and MG’s XPOWER brand.

Method

Wyles Hardy conducted an in-depth appraisal of the company’s diverse automotive assets, covering specialist vehicles, prototypes, and intellectual property. Our team carefully assessed the unique value of each asset category, particularly the high-performance MG SV supercars. We developed a targeted marketing strategy to attract buyers with an interest in automotive engineering and high-performance vehicles. To maximise exposure, we organised a webcast public auction directly from the production facility in the West Midlands, creating significant interest from global buyers. Additionally, we managed a discrete sales process for limited-edition MG SV cars over a 12-month period. Throughout, Wyles Hardy provided advisory support to ensure the realisation of asset value in line with market conditions and collector interest

Results

  1. The webcast auction attracted a global audience, leading to competitive bids on key assets.
  2. Twenty-five MG SV vehicles were successfully sold over an extended period, capitalising on niche demand for these exclusive models.
  3. The realisation of intellectual property rights added significant value to the total asset disposal.

Conclusion

The success of this project underscores Wyles Hardy’s capability in appraising, marketing, and realising high-value automotive assets. Comprehensive appraisal and tailored marketing helped unlock the full potential of MG Sports & Racing’s assets, particularly the rare MG SV supercars. This case highlights the importance of a diversified sales strategy—using auctions for widespread assets and private sales for limited-edition models—to attract targeted buyers and maximise returns. Additionally, the project exemplifies Wyles Hardy’s strength in handling prestige and performance vehicle assets. This outcome reinforces our role as a trusted advisor in automotive asset realisation.
