The liquidation of Rayner Plant highlighted the importance of expert asset management in complex industrial cases. At Wyles Hardy & Co., we delivered a comprehensive valuation and disposal strategy to ensure the best possible outcome for creditors. – Terry Madden, Managing Director, Wyles Hardy & Co.

Overview

Wyles Hardy & Co. was engaged to locate, retrieve, and prepare for sale twelve “forgotten” earth-moving plant items belonging to Rayner Plant Ltd., a company in liquidation. These heavy machinery assets were scattered across third-party sites in the South East of England, where they had remained unused for several years. The objective was to recover, refurbish, and market these assets for optimal sale value.

Method

Upon discovering documentation referencing the assets’ locations, our team quickly identified and verified each piece of equipment at the specified third-party sites. We organised secure transport to our holding yard in Bovingdon, where we assessed each item’s condition. As the machinery had been idle for an extended period, we performed necessary repairs, including replacing tyres, fuel filters, locks, and glazing to bring the assets up to saleable condition. Marketing efforts focused on reaching targeted industry buyers through print and electronic channels, leveraging our GDPR-compliant database. We also distributed electronic media to maximise visibility among prospective buyers across the construction and plant sectors. The refurbished assets were listed in a timed online auction, supported by a strategic outreach campaign aimed at attracting competitive bids.

Results

  1. Asset Recovery: Successfully located and secured all twelve items from third-party sites, ensuring safe transport to the holding facility.
  2. Asset Refurbishment: Performed cost-effective repairs that enhanced the equipment’s saleability and value.
  3. Successful Auction: The timed online auction attracted competitive bidding and achieved a six-figure total sale, exceeding expectations.

Conclusion

The Rayner Plant Ltd. case illustrates Wyles Hardy & Co’s effectiveness in asset recovery, refurbishment, and targeted marketing. The swift identification and secure retrieval of assets ensured minimal additional costs and efficient asset handling during the liquidation process. Bringing idle equipment to saleable condition significantly increased market appeal and value, underscoring the importance of refurbishment in maximising returns. The use of tailored marketing strategies enabled a strong, competitive bidding environment, achieving an impressive result for the client. This case reinforces our expertise in managing complex recovery and sale scenarios to benefit all stakeholders involved in liquidation processes.
